Macaca crime blotter

The macaca crime blotter is on overdrive this month.
Long time readers may remember the story of Karishma Dhanak, 20, a UC Irvine student who was found murdered alongside her father about 3 years back. The crime was allegedly committed by her sister’s former boyfriend who wanted revenge on the parents for being responsible for the relationship ending, apparently religion was a factor.
NDTV reports that the accused, 25-year-old Indian national Iftekhar Murtaza, is currently on trial in Orange county, California.
Prosecutors in California’s Orange County had last week said they will …

Joining the mile high club

Desi ishtyle [link] (tip maisnon via email)
No thanks to Anurag Mathur’s The Inscrutable Americans, it has been every desi guy’s dream to join the mile high club. Murali Nookella achieved it in typical desi ishtyle and probably landed himself on the FBI no-fly list.
Say you’re a 34 year old horny male computer programmer from the subcontinent stuck on a boring cross country flight. What do you do for fun? If your name is Murali Nookella, the answer would be: pull out the male organ and start pleasuring one’s self.
A Delaware …

Sachin trending on Twitter (Update)

Indian cricketing legend, Sachin Tendulkar, is trending on Twitter …….. in 3 different spots! Things related to India trending on twitter are starting to become fairly common. The other day a viral tag titled #awesomeindianthings (which loosely translates to …… uberdesi) was #1 for a while on Twitter. Sachin Tendulkar became the first batsman to score 200 in a one day international match against South Africa earning him 3 different spots on Twitter trends.
Update: Turns out being politically incorrect when referring to Sachin Tendulkar as batsman as opposed to …

Kajra Re – at the Olympics?

I must admit – I have been sneering at the Winter Olympics a bit , because it seems to be a white-wash – if you get my (snow?) drift. Skiing , curling ,luges etc  do not seem to encourage diversity.
The US Figure skating team of Meryl Davis and Charlie White , defending US champs, placed second at the time of writing with this rollicking Bollywood routine and made me happy .I absolutely loved the costumes.

MNIK: Ripped from the headlines

I watched “My name is Khan” last night. Without spoilers, here are my impressions.
This is a Karan Johar movie and yet it seems to be Karan Johar all grown up. No group dances, Manish Malhotra costumes and very little glamor. I’ll say this : though the movie is too long, it still manages to be watchable and interesting through out. The movie’s protagonist is superbly played by Sharukh Khan . He plays a man with an autistic  disorder, on a mission to convince the President of USA that his name …

Prof. Ravi Shankar is a published poet, and a faculty member at the Central Connecticut State University. On July 10th this year, he was arrested on false charges, and detained for more than 30 hrs in a NY detention facility while being hurled with racial epithets. His record only had an unpaid speeding ticket, but he was being arrested as he ‘fit’ the description of a 140 pound caucasian male, while being a 200 pound, East Indian male.
After being produced before a magistrate after 30 hrs of detention and being …

Adam Mamawala is a 22 year old budding comedian from new Jersey. Having just finished college he plans to make his mark in the entertainment industry as a stand up comedian. We liked his youtube videos (Caution – audio may not be safe for work), and were of the opinion that he is going to be a big star. So we decided to shoot some quick questions to him, and his responses are below – unfiltered and unedited. It’s pretty impressive to see some insightful replies from a young …

Most of all, you’ll see guys. Lots and lots of guys, in ill-striped shirts, in ill-fitting pants and ……….. balding heads
[Time] (Karthik via email)
No. We’re not talking about a bunch of desi guys sitting in an apartment having a few beers on a Saturday night or at a Diwali potluck dinner. In this case, the guys are a bunch of golf enthusiasts, mostly amateurs. From personal experience and with all due respect to my buddies, after a while these male bonding events turn into sausage fests and could use, ummmm, …

Only in India – I can’t tell you how happy this news item makes me. At last my sistas are taking direct action. More power to them . Normally I would not condone taking the law into one’s one hands but in this case I make a huge exception.
The best part of the article is that “The pink women of Banda shun political parties and NGOs ..”
This truly is democracy in action. [link]

Thus began a conversation that started with from “hey chica you want some coffee?” to my mom lecturing me on the nuances of chatting with any Lankan girl in marriageable, non-marriageable or any other damn age and the dangers that follow such chats!
It was a night which made me realize that living among the lankans had special rules and regulations one had to follow in order to survive or else… A good friend of my mother blasted into our house and gave quite a lecture on my behavior towards …

A while ago when we were discussing a restaurant review, Sidhu, one of our regulars, was surprised at people’s aversion towards mushrooms. In fact he went on to say that his recipe had a great amount of success, specially with the fairer sex, who initially hated mushrooms.
So we did what we always do, asked him for his recipe and he very kindly obliged. We have pictures in case you prefer visuals, Thanks Sidhu.
And it had to pass the ÜD test. So we took to our lab, well my kitchen actually, …
