Thanks to a new ruling by The Election Commission of India, voting officials in certain polling stations are now marking middle fingers with the purple ink, instead of index fingers as in days of yore, making for some hilarious photo-ops. [TOI]
Amit Varma of India Uncut sees the gesture in the following picture as a huge “FU” from Indian politicians towards the electorate. In the meanwhile, famous American blog Boing Boing sees it as a huge “FU” from the Indian electorate directed to no one in particular. Reminds me of a Russell Peters routine where he describes how the Italian WTF gesture is the same as the Indian “Did you eat?” gesture. Cultural differences, I tell you.

This totally blows. Now when I give the finger to someone in India, they are just going to think that I Voted. Boo!
This naturally brings up the question – what is the Indian FU gesture?
I don’t think we have one. Do we?
What can one do if bollywood’s first family too says FU ?
