A Tantra t-shirt describes the Taj Mahal as “Via-Agra: Man’s Greatest erection for a woman !!!“. Meanwhile, in the real world Bangladesh got one of these erections, and now India is offended. [SkyNews]
The fake Taj (pictured) was created by Bangladeshi filmmaker, Ahsanullah Moni. As evident from the picture, the Bangladeshi Taj appears to be still under construction and probably will end up being a shorter, stubbier and clunkier version of the original sans the history albeit with cleaner restrooms. A first hand account of someone who visited the Bangladeshi Taj describes it as follows: [Reuters]
just recently i have visited the new Taj. I got an impression that the Bangladeshi filmmaker made it for a commercial purpose. He is biuldng a ammusement park and the fake Taj is its part. The construction has not yet been completed, yet he made it open for public to exploit the Eid holiday and he succeded in his plan. The second day it was opened for public, nearly 13,000 people visited the place and each of them paid Taka 50. It means that day he earned Taka 6,50,000 ($9,300). What else one can expect from under-constructed site?
So basically India is getting hot under the collar over a movie set/amusement park kind of Taj as evident from the reaction of the Indian High Commissionin Bangladesh which is hoping to sue Mr Moni for copyright infringement. Another caveat to the Commission’s lofty plans though, since most of Indian law resembles Victorian age laws, India may be unable to sue because the architect has been dead for over a totally random period (70 years). Much amusement lies in store.
Meanwhile, if someone asks for directions to the fake Taj, they can always go to Dhaka – via Agra.
Update: Rezwan and Global Voices Online set the record straight with the Bangladeshi Taj Mahal. Turns out to be more media hype than anything else. Bloggers bring out the truth where the mainsteam media (MSM) failed us.
