Bangladesh gets new Taj, India offended (Update)

A Tantra t-shirt describes the Taj Mahal as “Via-Agra: Man’s Greatest erection for a woman !!!“. Meanwhile, in the real world Bangladesh got one of these erections, and now India is offended. [SkyNews]

Baah Taj?

The fake Taj (pictured) was created by Bangladeshi filmmaker, Ahsanullah Moni. As evident from the picture, the Bangladeshi Taj appears to be still under construction and probably will end up being a shorter, stubbier and clunkier version of the original sans the history albeit with cleaner restrooms. A first hand account of someone who visited the Bangladeshi Taj describes it as follows: [Reuters]

just recently i have visited the new Taj. I got an impression that the Bangladeshi filmmaker made it for a commercial purpose. He is biuldng a ammusement park and the fake Taj is its part. The construction has not yet been completed, yet he made it open for public to exploit the Eid holiday and he succeded in his plan. The second day it was opened for public, nearly 13,000 people visited the place and each of them paid Taka 50. It means that day he earned Taka 6,50,000 ($9,300). What else one can expect from under-constructed site?

So basically India is getting hot under the collar over a movie set/amusement park kind of Taj as evident from the reaction of the Indian High Commissionin Bangladesh which is hoping to sue Mr Moni for copyright infringement. Another caveat to the Commission’s lofty plans though, since most of Indian law resembles Victorian age laws, India may be unable to sue because the architect has been dead for over a totally random period (70 years). Much amusement lies in store.

Meanwhile, if someone asks for directions to the fake Taj, they can always go to Dhaka – via Agra.

Update: Rezwan and Global Voices Online set the record straight with the Bangladeshi Taj Mahal. Turns out to be more media hype than anything else. Bloggers bring out the truth where the mainsteam media (MSM) failed us.

  • Rezwan,
Thanks for the links. I've updated the post accordingly.

  • The problem started when AFP published a hyped-up article and the local-international media were fed with the frenzy.

What any of the reporters needed to do is to go there themselves (30 km from Dhaka) to find out what it really is. The Indian High commission was also played with the story and later retracted from their position when they investigated.

You will now see many international media trying to eat their words or try to lighten the issue with oddly enough type of articles. The truth is that it is a scam and how could they play with it?

MSM accuses blogs of not being trustworthy enough. How can you trust MSM who sometime do these kinds of yellow journalism and now bloggers are more responsible than them?

  • Amusement lies in store!?
Indeed it shall be so, when the hardened criminals get ready to face stiff penalties..haha!

  • Runa

Ha ha - Santosh, you had me laughing so hard that I got dirty looks from my neighboring cubicle dwellers.

Why can't India also sue Donald Trump for that monstrosity called the "Trump Taj" in Atlantic city? Its much more offensive than the Bangladeshi one - specially because the confused designer is under the mistaken impression that the Taj and Arabian nights mean the same thing.
