More Hindoos are coming

Looks like you are new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

As expected, the “Love Guru” is the gift that keeps on giving. ( see our previous post 1, 2 )

Our favorite “Hindu leader” Rajan Zed is now joined by Bhavna Shinde, representing the pompously- named Hindu Janjagruti Samiti and the Sanatan Society for Scientific Spirituality. Ms.Shinde is very industrious as she has sent communiques to the Motion Picture Association of America, the International Federation of Film Distributors Associations and the International Union of Cinemas-both based in France, the National Association of Theatre Owners, the Central Board of Film Certification of India, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) and various such bodies .I swear I am not making this stuff up. In said communiques Ms.Shinde insists:

“Stop distributing or screening the movie till Paramount has made necessary changes to the movie, so that it will not hurt the feelings of the worldwide spiritual and Hindu community.” (link)

But wait . Just like those late night adverts on TV, there’s more.

Dinesh Ghodke, the Director of World Alliance for Youth Empowerment, in a statement said: “There is no point in creating more prejudice in the name of religion,” and urged Paramount Pictures to consider the sentiments of over a billion strong Hindu community around the world.

And how can we forget our friends down under:

Vamsi Krishna of Sanatan Sanstha’s Australia chapter, in a letter to Australian Attorney General on the issue of “The Love Guru” hurting religious sentiments, wrote, “Please intervene in this issue and kindly use your good office to put a ban on this movie from being released in Australia.”

Hindu or not, Sean Clarke Editor of the Spiritual Science Research Foundation, in a letter to Paramount Pictures says:

“Change the name of the movie, remove any form of denigration towards the Guru and apologise (sic) to the international spiritual community.”

Mr.Clarke, please! lets allow us Hindus at least one effigy-worthy exclusive cause without involving the spiritual community as a whole!

While I am all for freedom of speech, I am afraid that any lampooning of Hinduism is being done by aforementioned protesters who are unnecessarily giving this movie importance and petitioning unrelated bodies like the UNESCO, the Australian attorney general and France-based organizations. This has “international incident” written all over it.Somewhere in Paramount studios one very happy PR person is laughing his/her head off !

Watch this space, I am pretty sure this is not the end of it.
