American Student ‘Twitters’ his way out of Egyptian jail

Looks like you are new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I’m not a big “Twitter”er mainly because of lack of time and dedication to that medium. Here’s an amazing story of how a student from the US who was arrested in Egypt “twitter”ed his way out of jail, literally. [link] (tip Runa via email)

The part of this story I found most interesting:

“James’ case is particularly compelling to us because of the simplicity of his message — one word, ‘arrested’ — and the speed with which the whole scene played out,” Stone said. “It highlights the simplicity and value of a real-time communication network that follows you wherever you go.”

Granted “micro-blogging” media like Twitter and Utterz are not likely to replace traditional blogging media like Wordpress and Blogger anytime soon, just as blogging will not replace the mainstream media anytime soon, if at all. But that is not the point here, is it? It’s wonderful to have a more lightweight, real-time complement to traditional blogging.
