Like all underground promotional campaigns do, the movie “The Love Guru” has created it’s own Myspace Page.

Guru MySpace

Among other things listed on here:
Under Interests:

Movies:
Arranged Wedding Crashers”. “Meet the Fakirs“.
“A Fistful of Rupees“. “Police Academy 3″. Guttenbuuuuurg!

Under Details:

Orientation: Straight (into S but not M)
Body Type: Sassy, Classy, with a nice high Assy
Ethnicity: American
School: Tugginmypudha Ashram
Occupation: Guru/life guide/Bikini inspector

Under Who I’d like to meet:

My Guru’s Guru, Guru Cheddafrumunda, his Guru, Guru Hathasmalvena, and Chris Gaines

Really? “Arranged Wedding Crashers”? “Meet the Fakirs”? Seems like they’re falling over themselves to recreate the Simpson’s brand of Apu humor. However, I must admit, as I’m thinking “are these the kind of jokes we’ll be exposed to in the movie?”, “Tugginmypudha” had me snorting my morning coffee across the keyboard.

I think Guru Pitka was based on Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, founder of Transcendental Meditation, with a little Deepak Chopra thrown in for fun. I think that most people who actually watched this movie understood it was a parody of Indian gurus who teach westerners and not a reflection of Indian Hinduism in general. The first 45 minutes were hilarious then it started to drag a little. Nevertheless I would recommend it to anyone who has tread the 'spiritual' path. Three eyes up!

i hate how everyone thinks that this movie is stereotyping indian hindus. come on you guys!! Its supposed to be a joke, which means its not supposed to be serious. Being an Indian myself, I don't understand how this is offensive in the least. I do however think that it is funny as hell, but thats probably because I'm a teenager and crack up when i hear toilet humor. Sorry not as sophisticated as some others, but to each his own right? Some of the jokes are actually funny, like the names of the gurus and the one where Pitka says "if your uncle jack helped you off an elephant, would you help your uncle jack off an elephant?". this was no Austin powers but still fucking hilarious! I thought it was a good watch.

    I'm wondering if the <del datetime="2008-04-14T17:53:07+00:00">script</del> <ins datetime="2008-04-14T17:53:07+00:00">dialog</ins> writer was Punjabi.

    Tugginmypudha Ashram

How old are the scriptwriters? 13?
I feel vindicated . With jokes like these - how can anyone seriously believe that this movie is going to shape the thoughts of Americans on Hinduism?
