Unfortunately, yet another Indian origin student has been discovered dead in mysterious circumstances. The body of Akkaladevi Srinivas (29), hailing from Korutla in Karimnagar District, was found.He had been stabbed to death. Srinivas was a student in Pennsylvania.
An MBBS student of 1995 batch of Gandhi Medical College in Hyderabad, Srinivas had joined Scranton State University for an MD programme in 2005 after completing his MS. He went to the US in 2002. ( link)
This is distressing news especially after the recent deaths of Chandrasekhar Reddy Komma and Alam Kiran Kumar in a home invasion at Louisiana State University as well as Abhijit Mahato at North Carolina. Uber Desi extends condolences to Srinivas’ family and friends.
While these incidents are scary, lets not to jump to conclusions that Indian students are somehow being targeted. Its a terrible world out there and I urge our readers - especially students - to be careful at all times and watch out for one another.
UPDATE: Police claim that Srinivas’ death is a suicide and not a homicide ( tip: Vijay Uncle)

Indian student in US commits suicide

New York, March 4 (IANS) An Indian student found dead Saturday in the US state of Pennsylvania had committed suicide and was not murdered, the police have said.
Akkaldevi Srinivas, 29, was found dead in a pool of blood with stab wounds to his neck. He was pursuing his second-year MD in Internal Medicine from Mercy Hospital in Scranton Town in northeastern Pennsylvania.
‘It is not a case of homicide, but suicide,’ Detective Pat Tobin of Scranton police department told IANS. Details from the coroner’s office are awaited.
Srinivas’s family was reported as saying that they were informed on Sunday by a friend of Srinivas after his body was found.
Srinivas went to the US in 2002, after finishing his MBBS from Gandhi Medical College, Hyderabad. He joined Scranton State University for an MD programme in 2005.
It seems that authorities are ruling this as a suicide. It is unusual for person to stab his own neck for suicide. He was a internal medicine resident not a medical student - -Vijay Uncle

I agree with you. It does seem awfully suspicious someone would stab themselves to death. Usually people prefer lethal poison, a quick bullet to the head or a walk off a rooftop. Heck, he didn’t even slit his own wrists. Something is black in the daal, to quote a famous desi saying.
