Unprovoked attack on senior Sikh outside Gurudwara

Looks like you are new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

The haters are at it again. How many more times are we going to see ignorance and intolerance manifest itself in violence against Sikhs in the USA?

Baljeet Singh, a 63-year-old Sikh man suffered serious injuries on Monday evening during an unprovoked attack by David C.Wood (36) , according to a press release from UNITED SIKH. [link]. Woods, without any provocation, shouted at Mr.Singh and then proceeded to attack him.

The victim, told UNITED SIKHS that Wood swore at him and called him an Arab, before punching him, causing him to bleed profusely and fall to the sidewalk

The attack left Mr.Singh with a fractured jaw and broken nose. This was not the first issue that Wood had with Sikhs or the Gurudwara , presumably caused by the proximity fo the Gurudwara to his home.

Wood had sometimes turned speakers playing loud music towards the gurdwara during a prayer service. In the past, gurdwara officials reminded congregants to park at a distance and also warned parents to keep their children away from Wood’s house.

I have no patience left with the excuse of ignorance of the Sikh faith as an explanation for such attacks. It is not a valid excuse because in a civilized society you do not attack anyone based on either their real or mistaken ethnic identity. I am sick of racists and their brain-dead eactions causing harm to the harmless. I am sick of hearing “towelhead ” and hearing people refer to the turban as a”diaper” . I am sick of xenophobia masquerading as false patriotism.

Meanwhile, the police have charged David Wood with 4 counts of assault, two of which are classified as hate crimes, and an additional charge of aggravated harassment. If these allegations are proved true, I hope he is locked up for a long, long time and uses it to reflect on his cowardly actions.

Runa, Thanks for posting about this. Hearing about these incidents is annoying because you’re right, crime based on real or mistaken identity is baseless. The whole thing is disheartening…

It is- sometimes I think the human race is destined to annihilate itself through sheer idiocy.

Anyway , the Times of India posted a story on this incident yesterday
