Ever watch the US Presidential debates and wonder why do these candidates all sound alike?? Politicalcompass.org has a breakdown and the findings will surprise you. Also find out where you stand politically in respect to these candidates and other former and current world leaders like Gandhi, Hitler and renowned economist, Milton Friedman.
US politicians: Birds of a feather

As you can see from this comprehensive analysis by PoliticalCompass.org, most of the front runners of the 2008 US Presidential primaries are right-wing authoritarian candidates. Is that surprising? One can be forgiven for thinking that the Democrats, or liberals as they are popularly known in the media should be in a left-wing quadrant, the vertical scale representing social standing and horizontal scale representing economic standing.
The answer: the Democrats are still left leaning compared to all Republicans. But in reality they are simply moderate conservatives compared to world politicians. Moderate but still conservative on social and economic issues. You often hear of candidates like Ron Paul being different from the rest of the pack. Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich are indeed different from the rest of the pack, Paul is an economic conservative but close to being a social libertarian and Kucinich is both social and economic liberal.

How do these candidates compare to Gandhi and Hitler? On an economic scale, the Democrats are closer to Hitler, while on a social scale, the Republicans are closer to Hitler. Kucinich is as close to Gandhi as you will get on both social and economic issues. Most Democrats and Ron Paul among the Republicans are closer to Gandhi socially, while being on the opposite side of the economic spectrum.
Summarizing the results, considering that most front runners, irrespective of their stance on hot-button issues like gay marriage, stem cell research and terrorism, are on the same spectrum, it is really hard to pick a candidate to support because they all are pretty similar when it comes to political beliefs. My best guess for desi politicians would be by and large, the left top (beige) or right top (blue) quadrants.
So take this test at PoliticalCompass.org and see where you stand on the political compass on a worldwide scale. Are you a social liberal or economic conservative or both? Are you a political Hitler or are you politically similar to Gandhi or Friedman? Take the 10 minute test. If you would like to, email me the results and perhaps we can get an idea of what political spectrum(s) the readers of this blog belong to.

This is great - nice to see where the candidates stand .I am not at all surprised to see Tom Tancredo ( he of the H1B fiasco) and Fred Thompson where they are - far right !
So Runa, are you a Hitler or a Gandhi?
