Force India planning a shoot-out?

I am a big fan of good buys and more importantly purchases made looking at the big picture. It looks like Vijay Mallya has done just that. Back in August, when rumors first surfaced about Vijay Mallya buying an F1 team, I wrote this

With cost cutting measures being the forefront of F1, the budgets could dramatically drop in the next couple of years and Mallya might have himself another winner.

What I missed was the fact that Fernando Alonso would part ways with McLaren and this has struck fear in every driver in every team. Public relations personnel are clamoring to put out press releases that their drivers are not going to get the boot. Amidst all this confusion, Force India F1, given it’s vacant seat and Mike Gascoyne, one of the brilliant minds working on the engineering team, is attracting a lot of big name drivers.

The latest to make the list are Renault driver Fisichella and ex Toyota driver Ralf Schumacher. Tonio Liuzzi, who was dropped by Red Bull Racing’s junior team, Torro Rosso, is looking for a test driver spot and Christian Klien is another contender. Reports suggest that one of these drivers will pair with the highly rated Adrian Sutil after a shoot out at Jerez, in the first week of December.

Whatever the case, there has never been such interest in a back marker team in a long time. As an investment, Mallya is already seeing returns. To see if they climb up the grid and find success as a sporting team, we will have to wait.
