Bollywood actress test drives a Formula 1 car

Looks like you are new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

As I was browsing Jalopnik, I read this post titled “Bollywood Actress Prefers F1 Car to “Hot Hunk”". I had to pinch myself once to make sure I was reading it right and a second time to figure out how I missed this piece of news.

Gul Panag, the latest Bollywood star did get to drive a Renault F1 car. She has a post about her experience on her blog (Since when did Bollywood stars get blogs?).

I couldn’t keep my feet on the ground when I was informed that Renault had chosen me to be their celebrity invitee to test-drive their Formula 1 car.

Renault is a Championship winning team, I doubt that they invite people to test drive their car’s, specially Bollywood stars, well unless she is a major marketing icon for the company. If you have more info on this one, hit us up.

I am still trying to figure out where she test drove the car. The pictures on her website say it is at Le Castellet, France. Unless this is the Elf Winfield racing school (yes they are associated with Renault, remember Narain driving in the Formula Renault Championship, way back in the day), I am not sure that this is a regular F1 track.

Nor am I sure that she actually drove an F1 car (Picture 7,13). The pictures suggest that she was probably in a Formula Renault car (any F1 fan can pick this up), then again there are pictures of her sitting in an F1 car (Picture 08 is an F1 car, look at the camera mounted on top of the air intake, and 14, F1 car in Wet/ Intermediate setup). So go figure.

In any case, It’s nice to see that you do not have to spend years karting your way to a F1 seat, even if it is only for 9 laps.

Women who can ‘dirve’ always have a special place, but as a side note, damn she has pretty eyes

Karthik - Panag is not a ‘Bollywood star.’ She appears in mind numbing Hindi television serials and is a struggler in the film business. And there’s no such thing as ‘Bollywood.’ Some numbnut decided to rip off the Hollyood name and alter it (just like our Indian directors).

Andy, we always appreciate our readers comments. Frankly, I have not seen a hindi movie in about… 3 years. The last one I saw was screened in small town america, Sharukh and Madhuri (I think), playing his wife cheats on him etc. etc. You get the point.

I pulled the bollywood star from other blogs, news sources and the fact that she has to be ’somebody’ to get a free ride in a car.

And there’s no such thing as ‘Bollywood.’

Again, it was not me. The term was so widely used that it has found itself in the dictionary.

      Hope the clarification helps.

@andy: if people like aftab shivdasani, Dino Morea etc can call themselves stars, then why not?

The term Bollywood may be stupid but is now a common name esp in the west, and is also included in the 11th edition of the oxford dictionary!

      Very purty.

Is this a step-up from acting in mind-numbing Tamil tele-serials? Even my continually starved-for-Tamil family will turn away from Sun and K tv if one of those abominations is on.

[...] in her second post describes her experiences in test-driving Renault’s latest Formula 1 car [via]. Nothing too poetic about her writing but I’m sure she wrote it herself as compared [...]

LOL Karthik, thanks for that. You sounded quite serious in your answer. I should have injected some humour into my comment.

Either way, Gul has something to brag about, innit?

Naga, my father is hooked to serials such as Arasi, Kolangal and Lakshmi - serials that could be your ticket to the loony house.

Andy my man. When I read your comment, I did not know if it was sarcasm or something else, so I gave it my best shot.

Note to self: Sarcasm does not transmit well on the interwebs.

Gul does have something to brag about. And to quote one of my favorite characters “Damn you vile woman“.

Even my continually starved-for-Tamil family will turn away from Sun and K tv if one of those abominations is on.

Really? My mom watches a few shows, but like she says, “even if I miss a year of it, I can pick it up just fine, after all the guy just finished climbing the stairs he started last year”.
