Not often do you come across a band featuring Desis that makes it big in the west and it is even rarer for them to go back to their roots. Goldspot the LA based rock band is doing just that by simultaneously releasing its single ‘Friday’ in English and Hindi.
For all the DBD’s, what adds to the excitement is the fact that AR Rahman, the Bollywood hit machine has collaborated with the band on this single and a couple of other songs.

And as far as the name of the band goes, do not be confused, they did get their inspiration from the now defunct soft drink Gold Spot.
In an interview with The Asian News, Siddarth spoke about Gold Spot, his influences, Working with Rahman and the new single
They don’t supply the drink anymore but I remember it as one of my favourites.
My parents sent me back to India to stay with my grandparents often so I have very fond memories of the country, its culture and of course the music.
Indian music has influenced my a lot in my own career and though you might not be able to notice the influence in my music straightaway, I know it’s there.
I have not been able to find the Hindi version found the single on Itunes UK yet, but I did manage to locate the hindi version(s) on you tube and the original English video. So while you wait for that exchange rate to ease up, enjoy.

wow, what a find! I’ve been jamming out to the eng. version for a bit now… but I really like the way it sounds in hindi (at least in this acoustic/outdoor setting) It takes the song to a whole new level. I’d love to get a studio version if you can find it… I’ll be looking…
Ronak: The song, Hindi studio version is available from the UK Itunes site. I am sure that in a couple of weeks, it should be available in the US Itunes site too. Will keep you posted.
