Source: unknown (Contribution: Sai via email)

Who says India sucks in customer service? These two waiters risk life and limb as they pass their patrons’ food trays back and forth between compartments in a speeding train.

    I think this stunt is done for money !! And this is on “Palace on wheels” train. Some foriegn photographer would have given some money(may be in $) to do these stunts to those poor waiters!
    And those waiters took risk and that bugger phigrangi took their photograph!

    This pic appeared in the June 1984 issue of National Geographic, in an article - By Rail Across the Indian Subcontinent and the photographer is Steve McCurry.

    BTW this was shot between Peshawar and Lahore, the bearers passing the breakfast tray between the dininng car and first class.

    Lalit: Are you saying that the picture was not taken on the “palace on wheels” train that run inside Rajasthan only?

    I am pretty sure I have seen this picture below in an article on the “palace on wheels” train(s). I am not able to find a link right now.

    @Anantha
    Yes that is exactly what I am saying. This photograph was shot in the 7th leg of the journey by Paul Therox, b/w Peshawar and Lahore.

    The Palace on Wheels(PoW) staff mostly wears Jodhpuri suits or bandgalas. The also adorn the Rajasthani pagdi as the headgear. The green stripe on the Headgear and the green kamarbandh of the bearers in the pic, might give u an indication it is Pakistani staff. Furthermore the PoW started in 1982, by which time, I am sure we had the facility to link cars and the staff did not have to resort to such stunts. :)

    BTW New Delhi & Agra are also on the PoW route.
