They way I read it, A new stadium does not necessarily mean a “new” track. It could be “stands” that overlook both a section of the track and a field for some other sport.

Besides, two years is not enough time to build a track, get it approved etc., which just makes me think the reporter is confusing things here.

Rajpath not to be the venue". And <a href="http://www.espnstar.com/formula1/formula1_newsdetail_6180734.html" rel="nofollow">ESPN-STAR</a> has this line - "The IOA will build a F1 track and a brand new stadium in New Delhi in time to hold the race, Kalmadi said.". So no street circuit and no stadium ready at the moment now. And it would take AT LEAST 2 yrs to get all the facilities ready. So its a race against time to get the stadium ready for 2009. I just saw a newsflash on NDTV’s website that read “F1 comes to India. Rajpath not to be the venue”.

And ESPN-STAR has this line – “The IOA will build a F1 track and a brand new stadium in New Delhi in time to hold the race, Kalmadi said.”.

So no street circuit and no stadium ready at the moment now. And it would take AT LEAST 2 yrs to get all the facilities ready.
