I told you so!

It has been so long since I posted here that I almost forgot why I had a login and password here on Uber Desi. These past couple of weeks, every day I used the login and stared blankly, not knowing what I was doing there. But this morning, it all changed. Well, it was when I saw blond highlights bobbing about, with a cricket ground as a backdrop, that I realized what my purpose in being Uber Desi, was.

I know that no one really missed me, in the midst of all the Malakar mania here. But this closet Fanjaya was invited here for a reason – to indulge in some good old fashioned rambling about cricket, specifically the World Cup. But some events robbed this exercise of its sheen. The demise of a exemplary coach, the poor performance of a couple of illustrious teams, the retirement of at least one maestro batsman have all contributed to leave a sour taste in the mouths of avid cricket fans like yours truly.

However the World Cup has continued on and a few teams have performed true to form. In fact, even the abject collapse of teams like India and Pakistan notwithstanding, this World Cup has been very predictable. Looking back at my previous posts, I notice that my predictions (even if they were echoed by other experts) have come true.

Ya ya, I know I had India as one of the semi finalists. But I also picked 5 semi finalists. If you remember, my choices were – India, Sri Lanka, Australia and South Africa and/or New Zealand. And I had my reasons, but I expected one team from the last mentioned two to choke badly. And it turns out South Africa did choke, just as I expected, with a loss to Bangladesh and a near loss to Sri Lanka stemming from a 4 wicket burst from Lasith Malinga. But India choked more than any one else and as a result South Africa came through. So we have New Zealand playing Sri Lanka tomorrow and South Africa playing Australia on Wednesday.

You see, I hate to tell you this! But I told you so!
