Dirty Dancing - desi ishtyle

A well intentioned government-sponsored mass wedding of economically underprivileged girls in Madhya Pradesh (M.P.), India, went awry when the minister who arranged the wedding also decided to go with a certain dance item (tip Ahmed via email) for the wedding.

The dance, which in its traditional form is called Rai, is usually performed by sex workers from the Bundelkhand region, and their first movements are lifting up the skirts and then lying on the stage, with suggestive thrusts and rhythms normally associated with copulation.

Gopal Bhargava, the Minister for Cooperatives (whatever that means), who arranged the wedding promised a wedding more spectacular than the Abhishekwarya wedding which took place on the same date. He ensured this by not only arranging above mentioned erotic dance but also participating in it.

Bhargava was also caught on camera taking out wads of Rs 500 notes and distributing them among the dancers.

Bhargava has a defense of his own for organizing the erotic dance sequence at the wedding.

“It is traditional to Bundelkhand and recognised by the state government as a folk dance. The Rai dance and firing gunshots are common in Bundelkhand weddings,” said Bhargava.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in India, Bollywood (and other regional languages) item numbers continue to use this technique to rake in the big bucks.
