American Idol

This week in American Idol (part deux): Top 9

Looks like you are new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Update: Amid scenes of Mr. Malakar Sr., dressed in a Hawaii shirt (if anyone can find video clips or pics please forward them to us), high fiving friends and family, the oddmakers predictions played out to script - Sanjaya is in the top 8 and Gina is out. I was kind of surprised because I thought Haley was goner. But the bra-less wonder seems to be holding on with her long legs. And so is our hair-o. The ease with which he proceeded to the next round and with the presence of Haley, Phil and Chris Richardson, should Sanjaya fans be thinking top 5 at this stage? The sound you hear in the background is Simon Cowell shuffling uneasily in his seat.

Update: No KFC hair-cut tonight. No pony-hawks. After raiding John Travolta’s wardrobe for his white suit from Saturday Night Fever, Sanjaya sang Fred Astaire’s “Cheek to Cheek”. The highlight was his impromptu Astairesque jingle with Paula.

Actually I take that back - the highlight reel was the random desi dude in the audience (Sanjaya’s dad??) hugging Ryan Seacrest like he was going out of style (Uberdesi page to readers to provide pics/video links).

Also seemed like dude got his hair cut and discovered Brylcreem for the first time during the competition. None of the contestants really stood out but that is understandable when you’re performing songs your grandparents played when they conceived your parents. After coming out of his shell for the past few weeks, Sanjaya seems to be going back into it now. DialIdol has him tied for 3rd with Chris Richardson which means he may be in danger of being in the bottom 3 or even being voted off. Based on tonight’s performance it may be time to bid good bye to Haley’s assets but she like Sanjaya has that extra something going. I would have to agree with the judges that its becoming less about singing and more about entertaining and in this year’s competition Sanjaya has that market cornered. Tune in 9/8c Fox tomorrow (Wednesday) for the results.

Update: Sanjaya’s number for this week is 1-800-IDOLS-07. Apu, you listening buddy?

KFCThe question on everyone’s mind tonight: Will Sanjaya sport the KFC Bowl Cut?

The President of KFC has written an open letter to American Idol finalist Sanjaya Malakar offering him a lifetime supply of KFC Famous Bowls if he will sport a bowl cut during one of his upcoming American Idol performances.

As overheard on our taped conversations from yesterday, the girl who was fasting to vote Sanjaya off American Idol has given up and gained weight in the process. In our technology section, Sanjaya is the leading keyword on Yahoo searches on American Idol. Our style and fashion experts report that, you can now bet on which hairstyle Sanjaya will choose tonight - the KFC, the Donald Trump or the Don King. Another question on anyone who follows this season’s American Idol mind is: Will this be the week Sanjaya will be eliminated?
The answer is probably not, if you go by the odd makers. Unlike previous weeks, Haley and not Sanjaya is the favorite to be eliminated this week. Not that this has meant much in the past 4-5 weeks where Sanjaya was perpetual favorite to be eliminated. Even Phil Stacey is listed below Sanjaya by the odd makers.
Tune in 8/7c Fox tonight as Sanjaya performs with Tony Bennett and (drum rolls) Fergie (of My Humps and London Bridge fame) in what promises to be an uber cheesy week on American Idol.

I think that Sanjaya is a nice kid and has a nice voice, but I think that the judges are not taking him seriously. They didn’t even bother commenting on his vocals after his performance. I think that since he’s so young, his family has come to the shows to support him and because he entered American Idol to be a singer, they should at least treat him the same as the other contestants. The judges seem to be singling him out for ridicule and frankly, it’s unfair.

I agree Semi. I think Haley and Phil currently are the worst contestants.
