Anoop Desai’s exposure as an American Idol finalist seems to be paying dividends. [link]

Doggy Style Records owner Snoop Dogg was grinning from ear to ear as he announced plans for his new album. Snoop Dogg, aka Calvin Broadus, will partner with his American Idol namesake, Anoop Dogg, aka Anoop Desai, for his latest piece of work.

“I’m happy to announce mah latest venture-izzle with mah indo homey, Anoop D-O-double-G, fo shizzle.”

The album will be titled “Desis and Doggs not allowed”. Anoop Desai says he got the idea for the name of the album from a popular Bollywood flick.

“When I was young I used to watch a lot of Amitabh Bachchan movies. In one of this movies Amitabh Bachcan bursts into a club where no Indians and dogs are allowed and beats up the villain. This album signifies me bursting into mainstream music.”

The album will be released jointly in India and the US in October, a first of its kind. Snoop Dogg had previously worked on the music album for a Bollywood movie with popular Bollywood star, Akshay Kumar.

A representative for Snoop Dogg says he loves Bollywood and looks forwards to continuing exploring Indian markets. In the music video titled “Chivda and Champagne”, Snoop will don traditional Gujarati clothes to honor Anoop’s traditions.

As for the chemistry between the two.

“He’s cool,” said Anoop, “I like hanging out with Snoop Dogg. “

And what about Snoop’s troubles with the law and penchant for marijuana. Says Snoop about Anoop,

“Naah man, he cool but he aint doin that shit. He scared of his momma.”

In Michael Jackson week, Anoop Desai took a big risk and went with the (pardon the pun) upbeat “Beat It”. His rendition of “Beat It” was ok, nothing special. Obviously he does not have Wacko’s moves and his voice seemed to lack the intensity at certain times. But the judges came down on him pretty hard.

Randy said he thought “It was very karaoke.”
Simon ripped him to shreds: “It was horrible. It was like a really, really bad impersonation.”

You decide for yourself if Anoop should move on to the next round or not (video below). The video contains snippets of a desi uncle and aunty (Anoop’s parents), some childhood images, shots of Anoop in Ray Bans (yikes) and such.

Turns out America did not like Anoop Desai’s rendition of “Angel of mine” and Anoop was not in the top 3 contestants selected to the next round. A disappointing end after showing much promise? [Slimtainment Blog]

For Anoop’s fans a.k.a his doggs, there is still a chance he might make it back to the top 12 via a wildcard round, which considering how he was shaping up to be one of the favorites on Idol, is not beyond the realm of possibility.

Dressed in shorts and flip-flops Anoop told judge Randy he could call him “Noop Dogg”. Simon remarked that he looked like he had just come from a meeting with Bill Gates, not sure if it was the nerd look or the whole Indian-software engineer angle.

His singing performance was not half-bad either.

Anoop, who jokingly told Judge Randy Jackson to call him ‘Anoop Dogg’, sang ‘Thank You’ by Boyz II Men for the judges – and blew everyone away as soon as he opened his mouth.

Not only was the song a difficult choice, but Anoop sang with more soul than the original! If he just changes his look a little bit, he has a chance of winning the competition!
