Bing: No sex for you, you Indian/Hindu

TAGS: None

As things stand, socially, culturally and numerically, it’s a daunting task for most single Indian males to find sex in real life. Then you have Hindu nationalists and a veritable army of moral police who want to ban sex from the media. Now we have Microsoft doing the ultimate KLPD by denying sex on the last bastion of lonely desi males, Al Gore’s Internet.

Microsoft’s new search engine, Bing, has taken a discriminatory approach when it comes to searching the word “sex”. [Reuters]

We’ve previously talked about India becoming some sort of world leader in porn searches. [UD]

Well, not if Steve Ballmer’s minions have their way. You see with Bing it’s easy the change the country you want to search in context. Pictured below are two search results, both with the word “sex”, one with USA and the second one with India as the base country.

The USA search returns millions if not billions of search results including a sponsored ad of, get this, Christian sex positions. The Indian search, returns exactly zero zilch nada. No search results for the word “sex” for one billion Indians, who by the way became a billion by the way of sex. No Hindu sex positions? Ever heard of the Kamasutra, Microsoft?

I tried changing my search to some middle eastern and South East Asian regions and seems like Bing is playing the same sort of moral police to these areas. But switch to an European nation and you’re all set for some hot steamy “sex”. Cue the porn music.

Granted Microsoft is probably implementing this measure to stay clear of the moral policing governments of these regions but in doing so, Ballmer’s boys (and girls) have indulged in regional bias, religious discrimination and moral policing. Would Godwin’s law apply if I compared Microsoft to Thackeray?

  • I use both Bing and Google search engine and i dont see much difference in their search results. I use google for searching hard to find academic topics and Bing for general search.

I guess the business development office in India forgot how search engines make money.
