Indian student injured in gas station incident
An Indian student at the University of Southern Mississippi was seriously injured in an incident at the gas station he was working at. [Hindu]
According to reports, Kadiyala Murali Krishna, a resident of Gudivada in Tenali mandal, Guntur district, pursuing master’s course in computer science from the University of Southern Mississippi became a victim of the criminal attack when he tried to ask money from a group of people who took away a case of beer from the mini bar/restaurant at a gas filling station at Gulfport City, where he was working.
Krishna tried to note down the car number in which the group was fleeing, but was hit by the car and his shirt got entangled in the mud-guard of the vehicle and he was dragged to a distance of 100 metres.
There have been various reports (some conflicting) on Murali Krishna’s condition and all we’ve been able to determine is that the injuries are serious. We wish him a speedy recovery.
The other facet to this story is its sensationalization by the Indian media. In the wake of racially motivated attacks on Indian students in Australia, the Indian media has tried to group this incident under the same umbrella. In doing so, the news reports are all over the place.
The Hindu reports that the victim was dragged 100 feet and injuries are not so serious. Tries to tie incident with Australia attacks on Indian students. [Hindu 1]
The Hindu (same source as above) reports that the victim was dragged 1km and sustained life threatening injuries. No attempt to tie incident with Australia attacks on Indian students. [Hindu 2]
Indian Express reports that the victim was rammed and has serious injuries. Refers to Australia attacks on Indian students. [IE]
Times of India reports that the victim was dragged 1km and has life threatening injuries. No attempt to tie incident with Australia attacks on Indian students. [TOI]
