Residents of the upper class enclave in Santa Clara , an upscale community near Silicon Valley woke up to reports of a tragedy that took the lives of 6 family members.
six bodies were scattered around the three-story townhome, four were dead, including a 42-year-old man whom police suspect was the shooter (link)
The dead inlcuded the shooter, his two children aged 11 and 4, a 35 year old male , a 25 year old female and a year old toddler. The wife of the shooter survived but is in critical condition. The family of the toddler had recently arrived from India. An Indian passport was found on the scene.
Late Monday, Lt. Phil Cooke said detectives “want to make sure the proper next of kin are notified” before victims’ names are released publicly. The Indian Consulate’s Office in San Francisco is working with detectives to help identify everyone

UPDATE: The Times of India appears to have identified the victims.
My son-in-law Devarajan had a quarrel with my son Ashokan and shot everyone in the family including my son, daughter-in-law Suchitra, their child Neha, my daughter Aabha and their children Akhil and Ahaana yesterday (Monday) night in the US during dinner,” a grief-stricken Appu Master, an 80-year-old retired schoolteacher, said from Ayyankollai village in Tamil Nadu (link)
UPDATE 2 : Rediff reports that the accused killer:
Devarajan was an engineer at Yahoo and had worked with Microsoft before that, reports said. It triggered fears if the incident was a result of the economic meltdown.
