When in India …

… do charas. [TOI] (Sidhu via email)

Alliance Francaise is French for cultural promotion through the use of recreational drugs. Ok, I’m kidding, Alliance Francaise in India “assures the coordination of cultural, teaching and administrative activities of all Alliance Françaises in India”. The head of the same decided to take it a step further and partake in some extra-curricular refreshments, i.e. charas. Personally, I could care less and think that prosecution of such recreational drugs reeks of more moral policing but the fact remains that in India by the law of the land, possession is illegal and carries a stiff sentence.

Well, above mentioned individual was nabbed by the pandus while allegedly in possession of this “cultural” drug, arrested, released on bail and has since left the country.

Which brings us to an important cultural lesson, when in India, do as the Indians do, do charas, do ganja, but do not get caught.

    I could care less

You mean you couldn't care less. If you could care less , the point is irrelevant, n'est-ce pas?

AS the mother of an impressionable teenager, I register obligatory protest. Drugs are bad. And the law is the law!

  • To do charas, that is Indian.

So long as you don't do it in pubs. Then that becomes against Indian culture.

  • *gasp* C'est abominable!

To do charas, that is Indian. To be caught, that is French. That would be a good rejoinder to Inspector Andre's "To be with another woman, that is French. To be caught, that is American." in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels ;)
