Bobby Jindal’s much awaited response to Barack Obama’s speech proved to be a disappointment even to his most hardcore supporters.
Jindal’s speech was dull and uninspiring and remarkably short on subject matter or even rhetoric for that matter. Liberally littering his speech with vacuous lines like “Americans can do anything” or some variation thereof, at least half a dozen times, Bobby sounded more like a meek mannered school teacher scolding his students. He did have a good line at the beginning where he described himself as “I was what folks in the insurance industry call a pre-existing condition” but clearly he needs to get a new speech writer or speech coach or both.
Regaling us with stories of his childhood, immigrant parents and Hurricane Katrina, Bobby reminded us of the friendly desi uncle who would sit quietly in the corner of the room until his turn came and then not shut up. Various sources likened him to Mr. Rogers. Not being familiar with Mr. Rogers, I looked him up and can’t say I disagree. [YouTube]
Jindal’s speech was almost painful to watch and may have hurt his chances at a 2012 GOP nomination.
