The multiple wins by “Slumdog Millionaire” at Sunday’s Oscars have a lot of people buzzing about how the little-movie-that-did might build a bridge between Hollywood and Bollywood. And, with the awards-show hangover just barely wearing off, Nicole Scherzinger has already volunteered to lay the first brick.
The Pussycat Dolls singer has laid down some vocals on a remix of A.R. Rahman’s Oscar-winning Best Original Song “Jai Ho,” which went up on DesiHits.com on Monday.
A remix of “Jai Ho”? How original. Even desi musicians wait a few months before coming out with remixes of recent movies. So what would this remix sound like?
‘You are the reason that I breathe/ You are the reason that I still believe/ You are my destiny/ Jai ho.’”

Also this is not the first time the uber hot Scherzinger has gone desi.
Though the timing seems fortuitous for Scherzinger, it’s not the first time she’s hooked up with DesiHits. Last fall, during Fashion Week, the site helped the Dolls jump on the bourgeoning Desi bandwagon by helping to outfit the group in saris designed by Rocky S. for their red-carpet entrance.
So, you ask, why Rahman? Nicole says: (cue the violins)
“It’s an honor to be able to collaborate with A.R. Rahman and be a part of the ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ project in any way,”
Of course, if it’s desi it must be spiritual.
“The movie, the story and the music [were] a gift and very spiritually uplifting for me. … I can only hope and pray ‘Slumdog Millionaire,’ and my version of ‘Jai Ho’ (‘You Are My Destiny’) touches and connects people all around the world.”
Besides the uplifting part, me thinks she has it backwards. Being that Scherzinger is copying remixing, of all things, a Hindi song, it has obviously already achieved that i.e. connected with people all around the world.
