There are two ways of presenting the technological boom India is experiencing.
A: The poor are left behind. Boohoo sob sob.
B: The poor are unleashing it to better their lives.
An instance of option B is presented below.
Henna designs, now available in HD

BBC has this neat story on how economically disadvantaged women in Hyderabad, India, are using computers and Al Gore’s creation to turn their lives around. [BBC]
A project named “Technology For The People (TFTP)” offers opportunities to women with artistic skills to market their skills and designs.
“Technology for the People” trains those skilled at drawing Henna tattoos to create designs. It also sends their work to production companies.
Sending graphical designs to media and production companies that need them while generating employment among the economically disadvantaged at the same time. What a novel idea!
TFTP basically trains these women to use computers to put their ideas on digital media with the help of a 6 month course. Is 6 months enough to master digital software? Maybe, maybe not, but at least it’s a start for these mostly illiterate ladies whose future consisted of marrying and hoping for a better future.
