Where does one start in the saga of Sanjay Dutt? This spoiled brat son of highly respected parents Sunil Dutt and Nargis Dutt- both actors and Members of the Indian Parliament – has time and again proved that he seems to be a few cards short of a full deck. The gossip rags in the des have to thank him for providing unending fodder – from his days doing drugs, stints in rehab, numerous romances, broken marriages to Richa and Rhea , his arrests for anti national activities , transcripts of his calls with underworld dons, release-on-bail dramas, current marriage to Manyata and now a full fledged family feud with his long suffering sisters.
This latest family saga has been spurred by the Samajwadi Party’s incomprehensible decision to field Sanjay Dutt as a candidate ( with the back up plan of fielding his wife Manyata should his problems with the law disqualify him ). Politics is truly the last refuge of scoundrels (apologies to Samuel Johnson). This makes it awkward for sister Priya Dutt who is a sitting congress MP, having stood for elections after their father the much loved Sunil Dutt passed away. And also brings about the interesting discussion as to who is the true “inheritor” of the Dutt legacy.
Don’t send out any sympathy vibes to Sanju Baba though. In a recent interview with the “Times of India” he proves that all the stuff he inhaled back in the 80s finally succeeded in killing off a few brain cells.(link)
In true-blue Bollywood macho style , he makes a few points – and I quote verbatim:
“Girls who become part of a new family after marriage must assume their new surname and all the responsibilities that come with it.”
“That’s a message not just to my sisters, but to all girls who hang on to their parents’ surname. It’s become fashionable these days. But I strongly feel that doing so disrespects the person they married”“No sister gets along with her brother’s wife.”
I let the idiocy speak for itself with no added commentary.
Hey kids! This is what happens when you do drugs – so don’t!
