Veteran Bollywood actor, Anupam Kher, who will also teach there had this classic quote:
“To me anybody who lies can act”

Oozing sliminess – can this really be coached?

Apparently, the students could not wait to start hamming,

Student Anu Singh said: “He has already got somebody crying, it was amazing.”

and indluging in cliches and hyperboles.

New student Ranjit Singh Shubh, 22, from London said: “I believe that the biggest failure in life is the failure to try so I’m going to give this a go and see what happens.”

Anupam Kher, who has never over-acted, ever, (wink wink) discourages students from doing so.

Mr Kher, who has performed in 376 movies including Bend It Like Beckham, said he would encourage students to avoid the Bollywood cliche of over-acting.
“Acting styles have changed in India and abroad,” he said.

If some actors want to start a parallel movement for non-masala movies, that is great, but then disassociate yourself from the word – Bollywood. Color me biased, but overacting, melodrama, random songs, gaudy dance sequences, all these to me embody Bollywood. If you take away these jazzy elements, then that is not Bollywood. What say ye?

  • Step one foot away from the Bollywood track, it has the danger of being branded a documentary or art cinema, and usually good but commercially unsuccessful cinema.
