Just in time for Father’s day , this “heartwarming” story from India.
An Indian man, frustrated at failing to find employment, ordered the murder of his father to get his government job a day before the victim was to retire, police said on Tuesday. (link)
The Government in India has a policy of allowing qualified family members to be hired in case a relative dies in service. The original intent of the policy was laudable - it enabled widows or children of government employees to get steady employment if the breadwinner of the family died. Of course, like all well -meaning social programs, there are always those lunatic elements who decide to pervert the intention to suit themselves.
The son had paid a relative about $2,500 to carry out the crime which was committed at the weekend but reported on Tuesday.
“He told us he would have got a government job on compassionate grounds had this murder remained a mystery,” Singh said.

During days of yore, Indian princes would kill their fathers to ascend the throne. So technically, this misplaced sense of entitlement is in line with “Indian culture”.
