A hairy proposition

Looks like you are new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Hair plays a big part in our culture. Men grow moustaches, women grow their hair long, sometimes men grow their hair long (a.k.a Dhoni). People take care of their hair - male or female. Parachute hair oil, shikakai shampoos, Anoop hair oil, and numerous products in desi and regular stores - the options available to us are unlimited. Hair rules.
Yet for some reason, when South Asian men start balding, they panic and lose touch with reality. The result - scary hair, combovers of the worst kind. There is nothing wrong with thinning hair. Most men experience it at different stages in their lives, some earlier (like me) and the more fortunate ones, later. The idea is to accept it and move on instead of overcompensating.
As supporting evidence for overcompensation, I present exhibit A.

There are 3 options to thinning hair: 1)Grow a beard, and then tie a turban, or wear a cap, 2) Shave your head 3) Just let things be.

It seems to me that if you just let things be, they can look like comb-overs. Because, the back and sides will be thick hair, the top will be thin. Unless you specially cut the top shorter than the sides and back.

I personally have tried all the above. But I’m lucky. I knew many men who were completely bald before they were 30.

I have observed this in action and fully agree with you. Even those who have hair insist on dyeing it with those weird products that eventually turn the gray hair to black to dark brown to burnt orange within three weeks.

Wait till your hair turns grey - then we’ll talk :-)

Also, ear hair: I had a Biology text book that talked about ear hair as being genetic. There were three photo examples of ear hair. All three were desi men.
