The Delhi High court rejected all cases of obscenity registered against MF Husain by Hindu fundamentalists. [BBC] (tip Runa via email)

A court in the India has dropped legal proceedings in three cases against one of the country’s best-known and controversial artists.
MF Husain has been accused of obscenity in at least seven cases filed against him in a number of Indian states. He is alleged to have offended Hindus with a painting in which he represented India as a nude goddess. In dropping criminal proceedings against the painter, the Delhi court said the painting was not obscene. Under Indian laws, obscenity is a criminal offence.

Now if we can get rid of the extremely vague and outdated obscenity law itself, we’re all set. By the way, one of the “obscene” paintings that caused this outcry:

Just to prove how stupid, pointless and futile this entire exercise was, in the first place.
