Glad, u brought it up..not that soft porn(?) ‘masala’ videos do not exist in other cultures/regions/countries, but our “conservative” societies seem obsessed with using technology for sexual fantasies.

yay! we ousted Pakistan from the top spot in 2006 and Delhi deservedly stands at the top. While Chennai (remember Mallika Sherawat’s dress episode a couple of hundred years hours ago?) stands proudly at the second place.

We just don’t excel at using technology, we excel at using it for exactly what we want, but Santosh, do you think youtube opening a portal for Indian users would really increase it? We could have always seen this on youtube.com anyway, just type in the languages (and nothing else) in the search for youtube.

ok, on second thoughts, I don’t get the ‘arjun’ part, agreed it’s a desi name, but so are alok, ajay, amar, amit, ahmed, all starting with an ‘a’. Anyone figure out the puzzle?

I wondered at first what ‘youtube coming to India’ could possibly mean - since Indians (from India) have been uploading videos - many if not most of them film songs and related commercial footage for a long time. But they seem to have created a new internet domain within youtube.com which tracks all sites with ‘Indian sounding’ content. I have a ‘favorites’ page on youtube, and it suddenly became in.youtube.com/me from being just youtube.com/me before.

It might be a way to more closely track Bollywood content, and that eventually all Bollywood-type content might get purged for ‘copyright reasons’. Just yesterday, for example, Runaji had mentioned the Sholay ‘mausi’ dialogue. I had seen the clip some months ago, but now it is not there. This is not necessarily bad, I always used to wonder what youtube’s business model was. Perhaps they will go to pay per view.

But I hope, like Santosh, that there will be a lot more socially-conscious user-generated content. In this respect, I’ve seen a lot more Pakistani-origin political satire, anti-Musharraf parodies, amateur comedy and drama - on youtube - though there are also clips of mujras - than Indian-origin. And many random clips - people have provided videos of drive-throughs in several major Pakistani cities. This shows the combined power of the cellphone cam, the internet, and the youtube model. There are some like that from India also, but proportionately fewer, as far as I can tell. Among other things, this type of content can help bring the rest of the world even closer to us, and in particular, South Asians can see both the similarities and the differences they share.

in.youtube.com youtube.in youtube.co.in webpage appeared early morning on 07 May 2008. I was delited to find only indian videos listed as Feature Videos. Swati Kothari, Gautam, Shailesh, Sakina - all together organised a grand show at India Habitat Center. Media queries were also answered comprehensively by Shailesh-Sakina duo. What impressed me is the young age. All those on huge Google/YouTube posts can be called young guys and gals with no offence. Manager - International : I thought she is a college student.
