A Nepali woman has been waiting for her husband to return since he went missing in Burma during World War 2. The missing man, Baburaja Limbu’s Gurkha regiment fought against the Japanese in Burma and he has been missing since 1942, resulting in a lifelong wait for his widow. [1]
Is this story:
a. amazing? - she waited nearly 7 decades.
b. depressing? - she spent her entire life waiting for her, arguably, dead husband.
c. a Shakespearean tragedy? - see #2.
d. infuriating? - how out of touch with reality can someone be.
e. a human rights activist’s nightmare? - Not only was she kept in dark about her husband’s status for a long time but the British army whom he actually fought for is unwilling to compensate her.
