With the testing leading up to the 2009 season, things most people expected have come true. Feranando’s lack of pace, Hamilton and Alonso exchanging words in the media, Super Aguri being under more pressure and the Scuderia showing everyone who the daddy in F1 really is. but one thing most people did not expect was the pace shown by Force India.
On day one of the Barcelona test , FIF1 set the fourth fastest time, with Fisi piloting the car. The time was less than a second off of Hamilton’s McLaren, which set the fasterst time for the day. In addition, Fisi completed over 100 trouble free laps, an important achievement, when reliability has been the bane of most teams.
Giancarlo Fisichella believes Force India is beginning to show the new potential of the team after he impressively set the fourth-fastest time on day one of the Barcelona test.
Fisi was very impressed, as he should be
It was a good day today and I think we made a lot of progress, We did some runs to work on set-up and looked at some parts to improve reliability and had no big problems over the day. I felt more comfortable in the car too - we are definitely going in the right direction and the times were pretty good. I’m very happy as we’re showing the potential we have now.
Although climbing the time sheets is an achievement, I would still be cautious about the race pace of the car. After all, Fisi is not the best known qualifier, even when he had the same car as the then world champion.
