A new job, 3000 mile cross country move and getting used to a new time zone have left me disoriented. The good news is that we have not missed much racing news.
Force India F1 have decided to give the second seat to Fisi, who in my opinion and every one else’s opinion is past his sell-by date. I say this because Fisi has never seemed to have the fire. When Alonso was winning races, Fisi was trailing, making mistakes. The last year when he was the team leader, Renault never was in a position to challenge, except when the weather played a role. Even then it was newbie Heikkei who was on the podium. The second day of the Jerez test, Alonso put up the fastest time in a Renault, after a year he spent reading emails at McLaren and driving a Silver Ferrari car.
Personally, I think Fisi was chosen because he will bring in more publicity than any other driver who was on the short list, well that and sponsors. Ooh and Shakrukh Khan is now pitching a campaign for Force India.
What was also revealed that FIF1’s scarlet and white livery is a temporary one. Given that Kingfisher and Toyota F1 parted ways, I have a strange feeling that Force India will come up with a ‘Kingfishered’ livery or a very Indian one, if they are not able to find a title sponsor.
In the meanwhile Narain will be racing in Taupo, which happens to be the first circuit where India and Narain scored points last year. I also think that the press needs to drop questions about Narain not making it in F1. Like the Indian cricket team, F1 is more than just talent. Connections, sponsors, press and even things like your management can make a big difference. Narain is doing well granted, he could be in F1, but he is doing well. If he keeps up his performance, he should find his way back. The same goes for Vijay Mallya, him not picking Narain is not hate but a mere business decision and Karun does not have anything against Narain either. He visited Narain when they were testing in the Summer. Narain also managed to sneak in a visit with the Indian President, for his win, at the end of last year.
Force India also completed their second winter test at Jerez, The good news was that Fisi did not finish last.
