In more American Idol news, Mad magazine’s list of the ‘20 Dumbest People, Events & Things of 2007 features our Papaya. While half the world and all the call centers were against Sanjaya, I agreed with fellow bloggers, that he was a kid and the media was being too harsh towards him. The same goes for Mad.

According to the rediff article, this is what Mad has to say about Sanjaya.

We’re generally jealous of no-talents who make millions of dollars. But not so with the king of no-talents, Simon Cowell. Cowell reportedly made over $45 million last year as a judge on American Idol. But we think he was underpaid. After all, the poor b****** had to sit through every second of every excruciating, soul-crushing performance of Sanjaya Malakar, the tone-deaf song-smith who suffered perennial bad hair days and, by comparison, made William Hung sound like Josh Groban. We can only pray that we’ve heard the last of this Michael Jackson wannabe.

Are they so wrong. News hit the wires that the MJ wannabe, along with his seester are out making a variety show (Thanks Runa) and they are talking to MTV.

The lovable Sanjaya Malakar was recently spotted smiling outside of The Groundlings Theatre in L.A., remember? Well, turns out he was there to cast improv actors for a variety show he’s headlining with his sister Shyamali!

Sanjaya’s manager Suzy Sachs tells PageSix.com:

“He has a huge following and a background in musical theater.”

The Sanjaya and Shyamali Show would showcase a special blend of singing, dancing, and comedy. So, basically, a stoned version of Donny & Marie? I love it already! The Malakars are currently in negotiations with MTV. In addition to the possible TV series, 18-year-old Sanjaya is working on his first album.

Take that Mad and everyone else, the kid is going to come back and hopefully we can ride his wave once again and so can the little crying girl.
