Bajaj, the manufacturer of the famous tuc-tuc has one-upped Tata, by releasing its ultra-low-cost car to compete with Tata. Whats more, they released the prototype car, a day ahead of the much hyped and anticipated release by Tata.

The prototype, dubbed ‘Hamara’ (ours in English) is a joint project by Renault-Nissan and Bajaj.

More details can be found here.

Whatever it is, I would like to give Ratan Tata the credit for having grand visions and fulfilling promises. I am also impressed that the Nano conforms with Euro 3 emission and safety standard, and will upgrade to Euro 4. I don’t know how they did it but I consider it an engineering marvel- This praise is definitely due for this little car. Also I think we need not be too worried about pollution+traffic at this time because I think that this car would be bought by families who already own 2-wheelers. These families usually like to commute on 2-wheelers for work and only take out the cars from family outings/emergencies. Most importantly the high cost of oil will deter low-income people from driving any car on a daily basis.

Another bit of praise for the TATA company: It is ahead of its time for its sustainable environment management, which is better than most large companies even in the west.
