Anu Solanki, a 24 year old newly-wed woman is missing in the Chicago area. What makes this story especially sad and desi is that she went missing near the Des Plaines river, where she had gone to immerse a statue of Ganesh. The statue had broken and the family priest adviced proper disposal in running water, ironically to ward off bad luck. Her car was found with the door unlocked and motor running. While her purse and laptop were missing, another purse full of money was found intact in the car. (link)
Divers searched the river on Wednesday for six hours but found nothing. Adding to the mystery was the news that Anu had called a friend en route to the river and complained that she thought she was being followed by a group of men.Later, she called again and said that she was not being followed any longer and continued to the river as planned.
We at UD hope that her grieving family gets some good news soon. Her husband Dignesh Solanki is reportedly inconsolable and is praying for her safe return.

That is horrific. Hindsight is 20/20 but if she felt she was being followed the best thing to do was to stay on the roads and drive to a nearby police station or something. Hope she returns safely.
