Turns out Hassan Askari, the unassuming Bangladeshi accountant who came to the aid of fellow passengers being attacked on a NYC subway by thugs, belongs to the Dhaka Nawab Family, a political dynasty in the Indian subcontinent. [link]
Hassan is very modest about his role but New York City seems intent on heaping honors on him. He received an award from the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding and is set to receive another one from Michael Bloomberg, the mayor of New York City.
