Narain Karthikeyan wins A1GP Feature race in China

Seconds ago, Narain Karthikeyan won the feature race in Zuhai China.

Having secured the best qualifying position ever in the A1 series for Team India, Narain Karthikeyan had something special under his sleeve. So I decided to watch the race online. Do not ask me why, but I caught only the last 15 laps of the feature race, with Team New Zealand hunting Narain down lap after lap. With only about a half a second gap, tires wearing out and brake fade at its worst, Jonny Reid was waiting for Narain to make a mistake, but from what I understand two great pit stops and some sensible driving meant that Team India coasted home to its first victory.

And yes, the Indian national anthem was played for the first time in A1GP.

Karthikeyan was excited and happy. Team India’s manager Mr. Setna was overcome with emotion.

An amazing achievement by the team and Narain. A few more wins like this should put him into the limelight he deserves.

well i had predicted this even b4 qualifying! i think theres more to it than meets the eye… hav been following ur blog on ff1 and narain and i stand by you on the point that narain has or will have a drive for 2008. maybe mallya postponed his announcement of drivers for this?

Thanks AK, it’s 5 AM here and I have not slept, thats how important this win was for me as a fan.

Given the current situation where Mallya is not making a decision until the 25th, this certainly gives Narain lots to bargain with, but we will have to wait and see.

Even if Narain does not get a seat for 08 as I predicted, a few more wins like this and he should be in a very strong position for 09.

Lets hope we see him on the F1 grid sooner.

lol werbout in d world u stay? USA? neway even i had to watch it ova d net.. these ppl at espnstar wudn broadcast it live! hmm yh i know uv been a big follower of narain n it shows up on WIKI. neway lookin at this at 4rm a broader perspective,

mallya would love to have an indian driver.. it all goes well from fans and sponsorship angle

next remember its force india - FERRARI , now as we have heard tata has a tie up wid fiat and is apparently even bringin d ferrari scagliatti (sorry if i pronounce dat rong) to india.. so we can expect TATA’s to be doing their best to get him out der.. like they did at jordan and williams.

narain has experience , and fits well for force india , since f1 has introduced the traction control ban etc.. which are not used in A1 GP and he actually went on to win the race today!

last narain is an indian! mallya knows and is desperate to get an indian driver by 2010 wen they will be racing at home! chandok will be a test driver for redbull and considering the fact coultard mite retire sooner than later he would step in to fill in d seat, leaving mallya with no indian driver than Narain.

Although you have a sound argument, I have my doubts about Narain and Force India atleast for 08. There was a comment by Narain that if Mallya wanted him to test, he would have called him a long time ago, which never happened. Besides, big drivers like Fisi will bring in better sponsors and more knowledge as compared to Narain.

This part might be true, Narain / Chandok might find a place in Force India for 09. This will give them atleast a year to do well and prepare them for the 2010 Delhi GP.

Having said all that, Narain’s win, in my personal opinion must have something to do with not renewing his Williams testing contract. He has made comments in the recent past that he is in talks with a couple of big name teams, maybe he will test for one of them. Time will tell.

Let us keep our fingers crossed.

well fisi wont make it to ff1 why?

    1. he dissed bernie.. bernie is a goood friend of mallya a very good one! the latter has and had huge support from bernie regarding his team and organising an indian gp. he’l listen to bernie is my bet

    2. fisichella was a paid driver, force india would prefer to have pay drivers with talent rather than an old unproven race winner as fisico! and i dont think he would wanna be a pay driver and use any sponsorship he has

why did mallya psotpone the announcement of drivers? i read this comment by kolles on f1-live that it was gnna be just after the jerez tests!!

the only thing that could go against narain is COLIN KOLLES, he played a major part in ruining narains career at JORDAN.

and now with this win and sum huge articles and even a front page headline on times of india .. there are major expectations in india n abroad to see him at FF1, and a sudden announcement from mallya atm will hardly attract criticisms
