Desi Scott Peterson?

Looks like you are new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Kultar Goraya of Florida is one nervous desi and with good reason. His wife of five years, Rupinder has gone missing for the last two months.

Missing Desi LadyKultar is a self -confessed abuser - having been in trouble on a domestic abuse charge. In his defence, he says he slapped her “only one time”. (That’s one time too many, buddy! )The police say they cannot do much in the absence of any evidence. [Link]

I cringed a little at the gratuitous mention of arranged marriage in the article.Did you? After all non arranged marriages did not prevent Scott Peterson or the current Stacy Petersen cases.

I do not subscribe to the idea that the husbands/significant others of missing women are “guilty till proved innocent”. However, Kultar’s statements and behavior do not help his case.

For the sake of their 2 year old son Sam - who is handicapped- we hope that Rupinder is safe.

Wow! And this news story never hit mainstream media outlets! Any guesses why??

Nancy Grace is on leave? ;)

Nancy Grace works for CNN not for MSNBC, Fox News, etc. Any idea why the others are ignoring this story while stories of Stacy Peterson dominate headlines?? :-)

Hell we even get the occasional Natalie Holloway update after 2 years but no word on the recently gone-missing desi woman.

Btw, the guy is a scumbag and by all accounts he seems to be involved, directly or indirectly.

    Santosh,
I wondered much the same. It seems unfair that when the missing person is NOT a person of color no-one knows and no-one seems to care. The sad fact is that if the majority in this country identify more with the upperclass, all - american ideal then that is what the networks will focus on.

that when the missing person is NOT a person

    Err.
I obviously meant when the missing person IS a person of color ,no one seems to care.

Exactly my thoughts except I framed it in a question format. But it also goes back to how involved we desis are with the local communities. When people go missing in the US, normally communities form search parties, hold prayers and vigils and bombard local news media with tips and stories. While all these may seem too cheesy they certainly grab news headlines specially on slow news days. Every missing person’s story has a friend or relative talking about how wonderful this person was. It seems like this poor lady has no friends or relatives, to speak of, to do those things for her. Perhaps the local desis in Ft. Myers, Florida should band together and do something of that sort.
