Man marries dog

Seriously, why does this crap happen only in India?

A man in southern India married a female dog in a traditional Hindu ceremony as an attempt to atone for stoning two other dogs to death — an act he believes cursed him

Bitch of a brideLong story short:
Budding serial killer kills dogs in the act of mating, suffers stroke, his astrologer is convinced this stemmed from his bad karma (I wonder how he arrived at that brilliant conclusion) and our friend, the budding serial killer, ends up marrying a female dog to atone for his sins.

Lest you be tricked into believing this is the brain child of one or two nitwits, as you can see from the picture, seems like his friends and family are participating in the wedding. Why do we have this national obsession with marrying animals and objects anyway? That being said, in a nation, where one of the leading celebrities gets married to trees, point being this superstitious attitude still exists even among the upper echelons of society, it does not surprise me one bit when the common man goes around (pun intended) “tying the knot” with dogs.

Classic quote courtesy a relative of the groom (from BBC.com):

“On the advice of an astrologer and others, he decided to marry a bitch to get cured. Then we arranged Selvakumar’s marriage with a bitch.”

Über Desi is now taking bets on how long will it be before this quote pops up on Leno, Letterman, Stewart and/or Colbert.

Uber Contest: India being the land of Kamasutra and all, any guesses on which …. ummm … position the newly wed couple employed to consummate their marriage?

  • Wouldn’t it have been easier to make a donation to the SPCA?

Naah. That would make too much sense.

Aargh! I hate when this kind of stuff happens and even more when it gets reported here in the USA.Several good years of convincing American friends and colleagues that India is NOT a land of magic and snakecharmers down the drain...
