The governer race in Louisiana is finally over and Jindhal has created history by winning the race. The first brown governer is in the house. Will this open the floodgates to other brown politicans?

So I went through a series of conflicting emotions at this news
First I was thrilled that a desi - however tenuously Bobby J is connected to India - was elected Governor and at such a young age.
Next, dismay as I realized that I do not agree with a single viewpoint this man has ( Republican,pro-life, creationism ,pro-Iraq war etc etc)
Is it wrong to feel happy that a desi has succeeded and may have opened doors when I so fundamentally disagree with his stance?
Runa,
I’m right up there with you. On one hand its pretty cool a desi, however loosely he is connected to India, has won the race for governor. On the other hand, Jindal to me stands for everything that is wrong with politics and Republicans. Purple fingers to express support for the war, gimme a frickin break. Jindal was dead to me that day. The only bright thing to come out of this - one can hope that his victory would pave the way for future generations of desi politicians in Amrikan politics. Hopefully, they wont engage in his brand of cheap symbolism.
This is an interesting development since I expect others to follow his example. States to look at in the future would be DC, NY and California. These states are flooded with the new immigrants from south and southeast asia. However I am totally surprised that Louisana of all places, elected the first brown governer. All credit to Jindhal!!
Just came across this article - Shashi Tharoor articulates so well what I was trying to say in my earlier comment !
