Karun Chandok wins ‘most improved driver’ award.

Karun Chandok added another feather to his cap this weekend by winning the award for the ‘most improved’ driver in the GP2 championship. This earns him a test with the 2007 championship team iSport.

Karun commented on the award and his progress this season on his personal website

All in all, it’s been a good year. Things have sort of gone to plan in that I had said we wanted to learn in the first half and then score points and a podium or two in the second half. Since, Budapest in the middle of the year we have scored points every weekend and to be given the award for the MOST IMPROVED DRIVER OF THE YEAR shows that the people in the know also have recognized the progress we’ve made. I’m really looking forward to testing with I-Sport soon. They sealed both the driver’s and team’s championships this year and are obviously a very good team.

I must thank everyone at Durango for a very educational and enjoyable season. We had plenty of up’s and down’s like anyone in sport but on the whole it’s been a very good year for me to establish myself in the premier category outside of Formula 1. Without the support of Red Bull, JK Tyre, Amaron and ICSA we would not have been here and my thanks to them for being there for me once again.

As I said before, there are several options ahead of us for 2008 and I hope that things will all work itself out in the next 3 – 4 weeks.

He managed to score a point this weekend at Valencia and has consistently shown improvement over the season. Although Karun will in all probability stay with GP2 for another year, expect some big names to be knocking on his doors in the near future. I personally think that the kid has great talent and I wish the desi media gave him a little more ’screen time’.
