Life beckons

TAGS: None

It is that time of the year. Real life has happened demanding a break of sorts in the world of blogging. Regulars probably noticed a slowdown in frequency of posts from me. Notch that down to a couple of factors – my upcoming annual trip to India and increased load at my workplace as a result of the former. Blogging@UberDesi will be business as usual courtesy Karthik, ANTi and gang.

Things to do for me over the next 3 weeks or so:
- Drive with mother to Hotlanta a.k.a da ATL. I’m jumping with joy at the very thought of having to drive for 5 hours through rural south Georgia on a Thursday evening in possibly stormy weather.

- Fly from Hotlanta to Chennai. The trans-continental flight with the customary stopover in Europe (Frankfurt, Germany in this case). Flying Lufthansa makes it easier. I’m done with the horror story that is Delta.

- Once we land in Chennai, we have to make the obligatory visits to relatives’ homes. This shall be accompanied by copious amounts of kaapi and dosai enough to feed a few families in some sub-Saharan famine struck nations.

- From Chennai, Jet Airways and labor unions willing, it’s on to my childhood haunt of Mumbai where we will be joined by my younger brother who currently resides in the nanny state of Singapore.

- In Mumbai, I will be faced with the main purpose of my India task, the unenviable task of performing the rituals for my father’s first death anniversary. He passed away last year in October at the relatively young age of 66. I got the call here in the U.S. – at work. The flight home, perhaps, was the toughest one in my life. In the past year, not a single day has gone by without me thinking of him. I can’t believe it’s been a year already but such is life.

- After that, we have to make the obligatory visits to relatives’ and friends’ homes which will be accompanied by copious amounts of kaapi, dosai, chai, samosas, chivda, jalebis, gulab jamuns and soft drinks enough to feed a few families in some sub-Saharan famine struck nations.

- Brother leaves for Singapore.

- Did I mentioned the obligatory visits to relatives’ and friends’ homes which will be accompanied by copious amounts of kaapi, dosai, chai, samosas, chivda, jalebis, gulab jamuns and soft drinks enough to feed a few families in some sub-Saharan famine struck nations?

- Plans after that are hazy as is the case on most trip to the “desh”. Mother might want to visit Shirdi/Tirupathi in which case I’ll transform into a religious Hindu extremist. Cybercafes and painters of nude photos of goddesses, you have been warned!!

- Fly back to good ole’ US and A from Mumbai on Air France.

In India, eyes, ears and camera shutters shall stay open for stories of interest. Any readers/bloggers in Mumbai interested in meeting up over cutting chai and samosas, pleej to be emailing me at desi(dot)american(at)gmail(dot)com.

Hectic travel times lie ahead. Internet access may be limited, if any at all, until I reach Mumbai. TBCKAS (The blogger currently known as Santosh) will be out of commission for a few days if not weeks. Blogging will resume once I land on the shores of US and A.
