For now, I know that Rep. Tom Tancredo, one of the presidential candidates just sent out a memo to bury his campaign.

During an appearance in Iowa on Tuesday, Tancredo said his deterrence strategy would be to warn Islamic extremists.

If it is up to me, we are going to explain that an attack on this homeland of that nature would be followed by an attack on the holy sites in Mecca and Medina

This came after Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama’s statement which echoed senior Bush administration officials thoughts that if intelligence warranted them, strikes would be considered in Pakistan against al-Qaida.

In response Pakistani officials called Barack irresponsible. Hundreds of people chanted anti-U.S. glogans and an American flag was burnt to protest the remark.

Now that news about Tancerdo’s remark’s have hit the wires, the effigy sales in Pakistan is expected to go up.

The State Department was quick to react saying

It is absolutely outrageous and reprehensible for anyone to suggest attacks on holy sites, whether they are Muslim, Christian, Jewish or those of any other religion

He also suggested that all candidates should be more circumspect — at least until they get elected.

“Those who wish to hold office can speak for themselves and whoever is elected in 2008 and comes into office in 2009 will then be in a position to talk about what they intend or plan to do,”

Ooh Snap.

So far the Senator from Punjab is the only front runner who has not mis-spoken, but we still have a while to go before the campaign ends, so let’s not give up hopes that the female effigies will not sell, we will always have other uses.
