Just days after a desi aunty in New Jersey recovered a bazooka in her front yard, another desi aunty across the pond in good ole’ blighty is in the news for something far more serious.

A 70-year-old British grandmother is facing life imprisonment after being convicted on Thursday of the “honour killing” of her son’s wife who she murdered after luring her to India.

The reason: her daughter-in-law was leaving her son.

The pensioner was said to have told one family member that any divorce proceedings “would happen over my dead body”.

Apparently, what she meant was her daughter-in-law’s dead body. So aunty and dutiful “beta” lured the victim to India on pretext of attending a wedding, strangled her and disposed off her body in such a manner that it has never been discovered to date.

Among the laundry list of reasons the girl was murdered for:
- “The marriage was on the rocks”
- “She had asked for a divorce and was having an affair”
- “She was a vivacious young girl”
- “she had developed a somewhat Westernised-style of life”
- “She cut her hair short”
- “smoked cigarettes and drank alcohol”

Surjit Kaul was not the only one to be killed in the name of honor.

The verdict is the second involving honour killings in Britain this month. Iraqi Kurd Mahmod Mahmod was jailed for life last week for murdering his daughter after discovering she was having an affair.
