Beth’s post also brings up a couple of monumental questions:
Is Andaz Apna Apna (AAA) the funniest Bollywood movie ever?
and the question that puzzled AAA fans ……………..
How did it flop so badly?
For the record, I think that AAA was one of the funniest Bollywood movies. The comedy style was slapstick and over the top but very clean - along the lines of Padosan.
The movie flopped for a variety of reasons:
1. The movie took too long too make as is evident in the late 80s-early 90s hair styles. Aamir and Salman were not as hot in 1994 as in the late 80s and early 90s.
2. Junta was expecting a love story with dinchak music and some comedy thrown in. Instead they got an out and out slapstick comedy with 50s melodies.
3. A lot of the tapori ishtyle public on whom the success of most Bollywood movies depends just plain did not get the humor.
But it continues to thrive to this day - in people’s DVD collections. Is it in yours?

Yup definitely AAA is in my DVD collection. It is a cult classic from Bollywood having wide fellowship.
Oh yes ! This is one of my favorites along with the afore mentioned Padosan ( which is my favorite Hindi comedy ever - tasteless stereotyping of Southies notwithstanding!)
AAA has some pretty nice music and is the one movie in which Salman does not irritate me
