Now the Shiv Sena wants to ban Orkut in the name of communal harmony. Abhiji Phanse, president of Bharatiya Vidyarthi Sena, a right-wing students group and offshoot of the Shiv Sena, and (perhaps) a friend of this gentleman (1,2), had this mind-boggling quote to offer:

“Orkut is used by many destructive elements to spread canards about India, Hindus, our gods and cultural heritage,”

The Bharatiya Vidyarthi Sena are working on a “software” that they claim will essentially spy on Orkut users. Of course, this software project like 99% of other software projects is on a flexible timeline and questionable resource funding.

“The software should be ready in 2-3 months”
