PETA: Give tax breaks to vegetarians ……..

Looks like you are new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

…. because “[V]egetarians are responsible for far fewer greenhouse-gas emissions and other kinds of environmental degradation than meat-eaters.”. In other words, vegetarians slow down global warming. Woohoo! More power to the veggie desis. In support of their letter, they cite this study which was conducted by the UN and the University of Chicago.

Being a vegetarian for the first 18-20 years of my life, I guess I was doing my part in fighting global warming. Before I get caught up in the jingoism, while I respect the choice of leading a vegetarian lifestyle and PETA for their work in trying to save animals, their insistence for a vegetarian lifestyle flies in the face of logic. Humans are by nature, omnivores. Just ask our ancestors, the cavemen - if you believe in evolution, that is.

Being vegetarian or not being one, is a personal lifestyle choice that is non-obtrusive on someone else’s dietary choice. Speaking of tax breaks, taxing should be a means of fairly dividing the cost of government among people. This tax break, it would represent an unfair advantage or disadvantage to people for their choice of lifestyle. So lets call this tax break for what it is, just a bunch of gas.

Sigh. PETA is often grossly misguided, and only out for publicity.

This idea is about as stupid as the demand by some avowed child-hating folks (who plan never to bring more humans into this world - my last roommate was one of those folks!) for lower tax rates, because THEY shouldn’t have to pay for their neighbors’ kids’ education!

I for one have always been against social security.

I as a non resident will never get to use it, that does not bother me, what bothers me is that citizens of this country who are my age might not have enough money left in the system to avail the benefits.
