Drug usage on the rise in India? Ex- Cricketer Maninder Singh arrested.

The residence of Maninder Singh was raided on Tuesday and 1.5 grams of Cocaine was found. Singh was arrested for possession under the Narcotics Druges and Psychotropic act of 1985.

On Wednesday Singh admitted to having used Cocaine for over 15 years in court and was granted bail. The cops are investigating if Singh ever dealt the drug which would carry a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

They say that another cricketer, Sayyam Siddique, was also arrested for possessing drugs during the raid.

Both were arrested under the 1985 Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, Mr Bhagat said.

Mr Singh admitted in a preliminary court hearing on Wednesday that he had used cocaine for 15 years.

He was granted bail in exchange for paying 50,000 rupees (about $1,200).

Police say they are now investigating whether Mr Singh kept the cocaine for his personal use or was involved in dealing.

First off, this was a very pissed off friend / relative who tipped the cops. Finding 1.5 grams of anything is like trying to look for an ant in your front lawn, it just is not easy.

Rising drug problems in India? I think so, we already covered this topic a while ago, but I think by publicizing this, the cops are trying to scare drug users. It could also have a negative effect, as Indians are known to take after their idols.

I am not claiming that Maninder Singh is an Idol, but think of what would happen if a big Bollywood star was caught doing drugs?
